1 / (2x - 5) = 3 / (x + 5)
x + 5 = 6x - 15
5x = 20
x = 4

Answer: x = 4

Proof:
1 / (2[4] - 5) = 3 / (4 + 5)
1 / (8 - 5) = 3 / 9
1/3 = 1/3

remember a/b =c/d equals to ab =cd

so (x+5) *1 = 3(2x-5)

x+5 = 6x-15

-5x = -20
x=4
check replace x by 4 1/(2*4-5) =1/3 = 3/(4+5= 3/9= 1/3

x + 5 = 3 (2x - 5)
x + 5 = 6x - 15
5x = 20
x = 4

the common denominator is (2x-5)(x+5). so now the equation is:
(x+5)/(2x-5)(x+5) = 3(2x-5)/(2x-5)(x+5)

or you can just cross multiply to get:
x+5 = 3(2x-5)
x+5 =6x-15
5x=20
x=4

1 / 2x - 5 = 3 / x + 5
(1-10x)/2x = (3+5x)/x
x-10x^2= 6x+10x^2
5x+20x^2=0
x+4x^2 =0
x(1+4x) =0
x=0 or x= -1/4
