also, I'm deaf myself, learning how to speak and readlip, but not that good, so yeah alot of deaf people are not mute, they just don't want to use voices...know why? bc we (deaf people) don't know how our voices sound like.

When I meet deaf people, I just act normally, Because I don't care whether they are deaf or not.....I communicate with them Via writing, Even tell them some jokes, and they love it........
the most important part is they are part of our society and we have no right to treat them badly, they are capable people, Living their life happily, Even some of them are very good Enterpreneurs. I salute them for their bravery and struggle for life......

I think much depends on WHERE you meet deaf people and if you care about the differing cultures. I'm learning ASL in college. My teacher is deaf. I have many deaf friends. I attend a deal congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses sometimes. Deaf culture and Jehovah's Witness culture seems like a GREAT combination. And think that is why I have good success with deaf people and friends. Today I went to see a deaf movie Black Sands, I LOVE IT. Deaf people same as any other people, they speak a beautiful language. Most deaf people I have met seem to be funny. They make me laugh, almost never serious. Many very patient with me. All seem very smart. So far hey are real, no pretenses. I like the culture. Other than that I don't like to say, this people or that people. We are all people.

I would definitely be friends with deaf people. I took sign language all throughout high school, and some in college. When I see deaf people, the only reason I don't go say hi is because I'm worried I can't sign good enough.

I have several deaf friends. We sign with each other.
Lipreading is only about 30% accurate, even for the people who do it well. Signing is best.
Whenever I see a new deaf person at work, I always sign to them and introduce myself. We don't always become instant friends, but at least they know there's SOMEONE they can communicate with in the building!

It depends a lot on the circumstances I'd meet them in and whether they seemed like a nice person who I might want to get to know better. I'm open to making friends with nice, deaf people.

Sure I would. There are some hearing people I do not like, so being deaf would not make a difference.

My neice is a deaf person, so I would just start signing to the deaf person that I met and we'd become fast friends.

Get out a pad of paper and pencil to be prepared. Hope I remember my signing. Don't cover my mouth when I talk with my hands or a piece of paper. And be patient.
