This is a story about a bunch of idiots who suffered from mass hysteria. Does mass hysteria both anyone else?? Doesn't it show how stupid people are sometimes?

'People' in general always have been, and probably always will be, fairly stupid. But they're still people. About the best you can do is to avoid the worst of the dumber ones and try to minimize the effect the rest of them have on your life.

If you read the whole article, the term "mass hysteria" is not really a good description.

As stated later in the article, doctors stated that in that section of Peru, there is Arsenic in the soil. If a meteorite did indeed hit the ground near there, or an airplane crash landed there...either one could produce enough heat to burn the arsenic from the soil and cause symptoms found in the people that visited the crater.

Sounds more like a lot of media hype than straight reporting.

Well at least we don't live on Mars. There's no mass hysteria there, but there's no breathable atmosphere either.

There are far worse things in the world than people running about in a panic after the scary thing comes down from the sky.

When they make a religion about it and then use the "teachings" to forcibly convert their neighbors, for example...
