I have never watched or listened to Bill O'Reilly, but I have an older friend, 82 years old, and she loves Bill O'Reilly and considers him a "must-see" and she is outraged at liberals and African Americans for smearing his reputation.
Is it a generational thing whereby older people say certain things such as "at least he's clean" when referring to African Americans? (my friends does say that about certain black people among other comments)
Is his reputation being smeared, or is he simply saying that he's being smeared, and does it really matter?

I've read the story and the opinions of some regarding the things Bill O'Reilly said, but I thought people were only stating an opinion to his comments, not smearing his reputation.
I guess I don't understand the problem with people voicing an opinion.
Seems when people voice an opinion, some people take it as a smear, some people take it as an insult, and some people take opinions like a grain of salt.

Well, as someone else pointed out, O'Reilly can dish it out, but he sure can't take it. OReilly and other conservative talking heads will smear liberals without a shred of concern for the truth, but when someone starts suggesting that O'Reilly sounds like a bonehead when he expresses surprise that patrons and employees in a primarily black establishment are polite and both blacks and whites at an Anita Baker concert are well-dressed, etc., he screams that it was taken out of context and that he's being persecuted.
Sounds like he and his supporters are paranoid.

O'Reilly and Fox broadcasting are always under extreme scrutiny, in the most recent instance, the whole thing was taken out of context. I watched and listened to the comments by Bill O. several times. He was actually having dinner with Al Sharpton at a black owned NY eatery. Rediculous.

Well, the harsh reality is that every couple of years the black community has to crucify some white guy for making an innocent off hand remark. Otherwise the whole specter of racism might disappear and folks like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson would be out of a job.
I remember a few years back it was a coach at the University of Texas who ultimately lost his job for using the word "boy" in a sentence. It is important to remember that this is a dyed in the wool Texan we are talking about here. The use of the term "boy" is as common as the use of the word "y'all" around here.
Ex. " I think those boys did a wonderful job on defense this year".

it is humorous how liberals, think of everyones a liar, yet can not look to nicely known the bia reporting from the media. ORielly is amazingly honest. i think of maximum intellectually elementary human beings would be attentive to Obama grow to be not calling Palin a PIG, yet I additionally think of human beings could desire to a minimum of settle for the reality that Obama grow to be attempting to poke exciting at Palin with the aid of attempting to cleverly use her seize word against the republicans. So specific, he grow to be being slightly a word stealer and attempting to scouse borrow her thunder and supply her slightly jab on an identical time. not call her a pig. yet Obama isn't guy adequate to confess that. he's one in each and every of those device. He can not even upward thrust up for himself. while asked on the subject of the Rev Wright comments he suggested I somewhat have in no way heard him say that for the duration of all my 2 an prolonged time on the church. So i got here across it humorous while ORielly suggested, "he's been advertising the stuff on CDs out in the corridor" Obama is one in each and every of those liar. Then while confronted, he says he ought to not extra be mad at Rev Wright than his very family members member. I recommend not in basic terms did Wright say racist comments, like "wealthy white adult men are the enemy" yet additionally quite irrelevant comments that no you possibly can desire to assert exceedingly a reverend in the CHurch. He suggested, God FU united states of america and the government created aids and medicines to kill the black guy, and on one video suggested bill CLinton might do to black human beings as he did to monica after which he motioned as though he grow to be screwing a invisible woman from in the back of. on the tape this have been given large laughs yet has no place in any any church. So ever looking previous the racist comments why might OBama take a seat and be entertained with the aid of this individual while it is so offensive? it incredibly is the genuine question. i can not enable Obama have a loose bypass on that.

All of the sudden white people are being crucified? Give me a break! I'm white and I thought what he said was very racist. And this couldn't have come at a worse time (Jena 6), so he should've known better. He acted as if he was surprised that black people can be considerate and calm. To all of you who took a listen, listen to the uncensored version where he said he was surprised that no one said "mother f'cker, bring me some more ice tea". Yeah, not racist my @ss. It seems that Bill thinks he's above everyone else and he says something that's clearly racist and then says "I'm not racist, it was taken out of context". Sure, Bill, we'll believe you! So because YOU say it's not racist then it must not have been racist huh? And then he goes on to play the victim "the crazy liberals are out to get me". See how his feeble mind works? I bet he walks around saying "I'm the most articulate and intelligent man alive" and it's scary because he probably believes it.

Bill O'Reilly shouldn't bother 82 year old ladies with his drama queen behavior. The little old ladies among us, gullible as they may be, should spend their time tutoring little kids, loving their grandchildren, and avoiding being upset by sneaky nonsense from the right or the left.
