To be Honest with you.
i have a radar detector at first it was cool to have one becaue it tell you where the cops with radar..but after awhile..... it is an annoying piece of junk.

if you drive in the city...they have radar everywhere and it beep all the time.

Even with radar detector when driving on the highway..you still will get caught..because by the time the radar pick up the cop radar they caught you speeding already....

I got pull over once going 80MPH....but I was lucky because he let me go.... he came and say so you have a radar detector huh..and I say yes.

This device will distracted you from driving and it is annoying..
I believe just follow the flow of traffic when you drive on the Highway....if everybody is doing 75..you are save...just don't go 90...either way..u get caught if the cop is around.

same some money and invest in something else like a nice cool multimedia systems for you car or a GPS unit....

but if you still want radar detector..go with a 360degree detection, i dont know how many bands are available now but the more the better....have the one that could have a silent mode. and other then that..Uniden is very cool.....

To me the best bang for your bunch radar detector is the BEL 955, for $179 at RadarBusters.com. The BEL 955 is not the best but it is certainly up there with the top 3 radar detectors [Escort 8500 X50($300), BEL RX65 ($329.99), and Valentine 1($400)] I personally have a BEL Vector 995($270) and Valentine 1($400) and their is only a slight difference in detection range. I like both detectors equally due to their unique features.

The BEST radar detector is relative to the features you like/need.....There are 5 radar detectors with equal performance in most respects and will save you tickets contrary to what some will tell you. The Top 5 radar detectors are (in no specific order) the:
BEL RX65
BEL STi
Escort 8500 X50
Escort 9500i
Valentine 1

I personally use the Valentine 1 as well as the BEL vector 995 both have saved me huge fines when dealing with police radar. But for dealing with Laser you really needs a laser jammer (illegal in some states) I use a Blinder M20 and Anti-Laser laser jammers on my Volvo along with VEIL stealth coating and LaserShield plate cover.

For those that say a radar detector is just a ticket notifier obviously don't have experience with a top level detector. Ask any of my friends that ride in my car. My detectors both sniff out cops easily and give me plenty of time to slow down when usually going 10-15mph over the limit.

For test results of pretty much all laser jammers and radar detectors....Check out these links:

Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and Washington DC.

Go with a 11 or 12 band detector, don't go cheap with a 6 band because you will get a higher chance to get a ticket. Also from personal experience, cops hide behind horizons like hills so their radar will pop up once you cross the horizon so it will be too late to react even with a radar detector.

The best on the market is the Valentine. It's rather pricey at about $450, but mine has paid for itself many times over.

If you don't want/can't spend that much, it doens't much matter. Something in the $100 range will be fine, but dont' rely on it too much. Even with the Valentine I have to stay very aware of my surroundings, road contour, curves, etc. Radar works on line-of-sight, therefore the detector does too.

No you don't.

What you need to do is start obeying the f***ing road rules (or maybe you just need to lose your licence).
