most communication isn't said at all, and i listen to it.

It's true that your gut feeling tells you more than anything. What isn't being said can be just as important. My boy friend had a fight with me about him not having a job and decided to walk home, without telling me where is was going. I didn't even know he had left! Later on the phone, he said something about me being upset if he had got hit by a car. Want to know what he didn't say... "I'm pouting because I know your right, I do need a job." This is also true for controlling boyfriends (which he is not but that I have had) they will say things like, "You don't like me." or "Where have you been. I tried to call three times." It seems like they care, but they just want to guilt you or control you. With my family, what is being said, but is most important, it that we will stay together forever. Because of this I know that even if I fight with them, it will always subside.

In fact, I do. I'm constantly looking for subtle cues when people talk to me. I study their body language and what they do with their eyes.
I find that I've had to pull back because people can be full of BS and I'd rather not know sometimes...
I find I'm pretty dead on with the assessments I make of others after about 5 to 15 minutes of talking with them.
Oh well, interesting question!

I think that everybody tries (at some level) to do that. But that leaves the door wide open for miscommunication which, in many ways, can be worse that -no- communication at all.
