What do you really need in life? To be extremely beautiful or intelligent?

I'd like to go all altruistic on you, and say I'd choose intelligence above all.... and maybe, if I was a man, I would. Some (truly smart) men have a way of blinding people with their brilliance. (I could illustrate with a few examples of men who are in the public eye.... but I'm sure you can think of a few on your own..... so, thankfully, I can skip the shallow mentioning of names.)
Also, it must be pointed out that these days, sows' ears can, very often, be made into silk purses..... through the miracles of plastic surgery, make-up, and Victoria's (bless her heart for sharing it) Secret. However, this is highly dependent on how much time, money, and motivation (Uggghhh, sit-ups!) you have (or, are willing) to put into your appearance. And, let's face it.... in time, in spite of all your efforts, there is just so much that even Victoria can do for you... (unless, you're lucky enough to have ageless genes.) At that point, your most important asset (not among the choices you offered) is an incredible sense of humor. (ha ha ha ha ha..... ha ha)
So, Miho... in spite of my deep respect and longing for intelligence, the only honest answer I can give you is this: If push came to shove...... I would LOVE to be knock-down, drop-dead, over-the-top..... gorgeous (and, hopefully, not too much of an airhead). Matter of fact (since you brought it up), I think I'll go smear myself with moisturizer, and do some of those nasty sit-ups!

*EDIT* Just thought of something! How about being beautiful enough to get the attention of one of those (previously mentioned) men.... Then he could teach me everyting he knows. Perfect!

Beauty is skin deep. Really. Beauty on the outside eventually goes. Wrinkles happen. Botox and plastic surgery don't last forever.

Intelligence and wisdom gets greater and more defined as we age. We have seen just about all by the time we have reached 80+ years old. If the mind is still clear and not diseased then it is another path that we are enlightened to, adding to our wisdom.

I'd go with intelligence. That lasts a lifetime. Beauty starts to fall apart after 20 or 30 years.

Intelligence, because unlike beauty it does not fade. In fact intelligence usually increases over time. Beauty fades overnight in comparison. "My love is like a red, red rose," said the poet Robert Burns. But the problem with roses is not only their thorniness but also the all too mortal truth that roses fade and die quickly - right after they are picked.

I am lucky to have both. Many of my teachers in public school and college raved about my intelligence. My high school principal said I had the highest IQ in the history of the school. If I had to choose one, it would be intelligence. I see many beautiful people who are stupid. One need look no further than Hollywood for that.
