Surprisingly, ones avatar can have a major effect on the responses you get. Since I put my real pic up, people give me stars, thumbs up, become fans, etc.
It's weird.

You'd be surprised. When I changed my avatar from the cartoon one to it's current one, I started getting more responses, more thumb-ups, and more best answers, and my questions and answers really aren't different than they were before...
(This avatar I think is more friendly-looking and more personal.)

It couldn't hurt, I've posted comments about some of the angry/nasty/peeved expressions some people use, and most agreed that they catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
