How long can my apartment complex wait before sending my account to collections? (Long story short they claim one thing I claim another) Could they send it in a year? Or longer?

This is true of any bill. The person/company/etc. that you owe money to can turn that bill over to anyone they want, at any time you owe the money.

Once you owe a landlord money that falls within your rental agreement and are PAST DUE, you have broken your agreement and they can do lots of things to collect it and that includes turning it over to a collection agency, suing you in court, etc.

There is NO waiting time period. Just as companies that finance homes sell your contract all the time.

This question hidges on the state which you are located. Generally speaking, most disputes between landlord & tennant needs to be settled within the county court system. I would suggest you file against them if you still disagree with their determination. The longer you allow, the more likely you are going to have statute of limitations problem.

On skips I send the day I find out also with evictions. On regular move-outs with a balance left I will normally allow 30 days for the former residents to make payment arrangements.

One day after the rent is late, out to the statute of limitations for your state.

The question is can or will? The legal answer is in the lease. I would suggest, consult an attorney.
