Yes. It subjects you to being drafted, should the draft be reinstated. But **all** U.S. males are REQUIRED to register with Selective Service within a short time frame after turning 18.

Every male in the United States who reaches the age of 18 must register with the selective service - it's not a DMV thing it's the law.

Yes, it can be considered the draft, but as we have an all voluntary military you are safe --- unless the reinstate the draft. This is just the way the government keeps track of all the men in this country of age to fight should the need arise.

Wow... I can see there is a real generation gap here.

"Selective Service" is called the DRAFT and, once the election is over in 2008, I can almost guarantee you that the DRAFT will be restarted because the military is so decimated now it's unbelievable and, once the troops start coming home and can leave the service... there won't be 40,000 troops left in the military so... COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE is on the horizon and YOU, my friend, will then KNOW what the Selective Service is.

About a year ago, Congress VERY QUIETLY allocated funds to reactivate the local Selective Service boards and those local boards even had a DRY RUN to get all their software and records in order so they can start DRAFTING 18 to 20 YEAR OLD MALES into the ARMY.

The selective service is the draft. There hasn't been a draft since 1968. You are required by law to do it as a young man.

Yes

It is the fancy name for the draft.

You needed to sign up for it anyway other wish you can screw up your future. If you don't sign up and reach the cut off date for termination of selective service your won't be able to get federal government assistance for student loans and other programs of that sort.

Don't worry about signing up, the chances of the draft starting up again are slim.

If the s**t hits the fan and they needed young males for the military, they would just pick you up off the street and take you to basic training anyway.

Greetings. the selective service is the list of those who will be lucky enough to be drafted for involuntary military service. the draft. you just signed up to be drafted if the draft is put back into place, which should be right after our great leader orders the invasion of Iran and the resultant Third World War with nuclear weapons for all.

No..it's a just a way for the gov't to collect names of eligable men for a draft if one was to be started...And it's the law...not a choice...this has been going on for mre than 20yrs now...and some employers that do background checks will take it into consideration whether to hire you or not.

It is the government board that keeps records on who is eligible for the draft. Do not worry, there will be no draft. They have been keeping records since before WWII. If you do not register you will not be able to get student loans, government grants, or government jobs.

If a draft is enacted, then youre signed up.

You are required by law to sign up for it, you get no choice. As long as a draft is not issued then its nothing.
