Hi Third P.
I personally do not think that death is terrible. It is easy for people, especially young & healthy people, to say that death is not terrible; it is part of life, etc.
However you need to have seen death up close & personal to really be able to know what it is. I had my first up close encounter when I was three and a half years old. That's all I will say about that, except for the fact that I lived, obviously. The second time was when I was 9 years old and lightning took my friend, but somehow spared me. The third time was when I was 17 years old. I had just graduated from high school, and a week later was in a terrible car crash with my family. I was very close to dying, yet survived.
I do know why people see death as so terrible. It is the sense of aloneness that goes with it. We will each die, inevitably. We will each die alone, as far as humans go. Some people fear death because of the fact that we each have to make that trip alone. Or so some believe.
I have strong spiritual beliefs, and I know that God is with me always, through the good times & the bad times. I am still young & would like many more decades of living. However, it appears I am not scheduled for that. I face death every day.
Of course, technically, we all face the possibility of death everyday. But some people, myself included, are sick to the point that each day is a pleasant surprise. Do I think death is terrible — no, I do not. I must say that, at this point, I prefer life. I do not wish to leave all the wonderful friends I have, nor my loving husband. However, when the moment comes, and it was very close 3 times in the past 5 years, I will not be afraid.
All I need is someone on this earthly plane to hold my hand while I make the transition over to the Heavenly plane of existence that I know is there for me. I have seen it slightly, certainly felt it, and definitely know I will not be alone.
Life is sweet — the afterlife will be sweeter still.
I was nervous when I moved out of my parents house at the age of 18; yet I was also excited. The fear of the unknown goes hand in hand with the excitement of the newness that is to come. It is like that in many new changes throughout life. For example, moving out for the first time (as I just mentioned), getting married, finding out you are going to be a parent, etc. These are all changes that bring the fear of the unknown into our life. But they can also bring the sweet excitement of anticipation of a new phase of existence that we know, deep inside, will be wonderful.
Death is no different. It just happens to be the last change we will make in this mortal life; it will be our biggest transition. We will be moving from the mortal to the immortal. It, too, brings the fear of change along with the excitement of new beginnings. At least it does for those who know there is something after this life. I, for one, know that there is. God has shown me glimpses of it.
Death is not terrible; just the word is. It should be called some kind of transition, a type of moving on. That's how I view it, anyway.
Peace.

I think death is so terrible to people not because life is so sweet (it really is!!) but because we have no idea what really happens to us when we die and never really will. People have such a great fear of the unknown, as intelligent beings, we try to have answers for all the questions. When that intelligence fails us, we freak out and become so uncomfortable and scared of the unknown. I think that if people knew for a fact what to expect on the moment of death, there would not be such a fear of it.
You have a wonderful day, too :)

I don't find death terrible.
Like Don H said, it's a part of life.
So why worry about it?
It's going to happen so I say just focus on living your life to the fullest and when your time comes, have no regrets.

Who says death is terrible in the long run? Maybe something can be great, but it doesn't mean there isn't something even better coming. Enjoy it either way is what I say.

Life is sweet because death is bitter? The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

Ha Ha Ha HA............................! actually no one knows, where human being goes after death, it is just a conception in mind which entered through stories or some other ways, that a person goes to hell or heaven. i believe to keep a person away from bad activities and get them engaged in right duties of life a sort of fear is being created in subconscious mind of a person, which in turn stops a person from doing wrong activities.
the fear of going to hell makes the death terrible. (No one knows it exist or not)

Death is only terrible if one does not know God (Also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc.) or If one is attached to anyone or anything within this material world. Otherwise it is our Ticket HOME.

even if you hate an ugly item, if you lose it and it was given to you by someone valuable then it is still sad
