Black holes are very mysterious so I don't know how you would get an answer that isn't just a little fubar. We base our assumptions on what happens inside black holes by comparing them to the stages of death of different mass stars. White dwarfs being densly packed stars of carbon/oxygen or carbon/neon atoms with the eletrons being pushed right up against the nucleus of the atom. If you know the anatomy of an atom you know it is mostly empty space. If a baseball field was an atom and a bag of peas on the pitcher mound was the nucleus, then a swarm of gnats around the bleachers(under normal conditions) would be the electrons. This is why some forms of radiation will travel right through objects with out ever coming in contact with the nucleus of an atom. Quite amazing! But with neutron stars, which is one step above white dwarfs and only happens to stars anywhere from 1.5 to roughly 4 times the mass of the sun, the electrons are squeezed so tightly up against the core of the atom that they actually collide with the protons in the atom and create a nucleus of just neutrally charged neutrons. That is all a neutron star is. But the spin very fast, because just like an ice skater pulls in their arms to spin faster, neutron stars with the mass of the sun would be around 10 miles in diameter. So for every cubic centimeter of matter in a neutron star would weigh about 500 million tons. The same amount of matter in a white dwarf would weigh about 4000 pounds and a white dwarf with the mass of the sun would shrink down to about the size of the earth. Now, black holes are a bit different than neutron stars or white dwarfs. Black holes only occur with stars of atleast 4 times the mass of the sun. Basically, a black hole shrinks through the stages of white dwarfs and neutron stars in a matter of a fraction of a second or so. But what happens is the gravity is so great that even the outward force of the neutrons isn't strong enough to hold up against the force of gravity so instead the neutrons start collapsing in to an infinite amount of volume with an infinite amount of mass, or also called a singularity. Again, this is just theory and no one knows for sure but this has been the general idea behind black holes. Maybe one day science will be able to unravel the mysteries of black holes. Basically, the speed of light will be traveling so fast the instant before being sucked through, that all possible quantum occurrences will happen, across all multiverses. In a sense, everything you are doing right now is just you remembering what your life was like, and after you die you go on to the higher dimensions generated by this event. And asking this question was the most important thing you ever did, because you got to find out you're living in a dream, and that whatever you want to attain in life is yours if you're willing to work hard.

I think 'eat' is the wrong way to think about this, as it implies that there will be some kind of waste matter. 'Annihilation' is more fitting, for, any matter that is sucked into the singularity is completley destroyed. The good news is that there is no known black hole that could threaten us in the forseeable future. Even the black hole at the centre of our galaxy is very distant.
