Hi, I am 56 and not real affected by menopause, periods over years ago, but i do get real not, not a flash and real cold and I know I need to take a look at my hormones and I have no money to go to a dr. I also know there are many over the counter ways to deal with it,but one can spend a forturne figuring it out and I don't want to take syntetics hormones. Any ideas, books to read ???? thanks

There really isn't anything OTC that works. I have been going through menopause since 2005 and haven't taken anything yet OTC that works at all. So I would suggest you save your money. As for Hormone Replacement? I choose not to because of how the hormone is made. So, the hot flashes, chills, insomnia and mood swings are just something I deal with on a daily basis. They are getting better though. So if you can stick it out and don't have any other health risks, I would choose no meds.

I am 59 and I am sorry to say there is no over the counter medicine that really will help you. You really do need to see a doctor about this. Getting really cold can be dangerous too and if you feel you are really cold and get a little light headed be sure to get into a hot tub of water quickly! I went three years without hormones when I had my surgery and they took it all. It was hard to deal with but I did. I looked for an over the counter cure but nothing seemed to help me. I just lived with it. If you are having extreme mood changes then it will effect your family life too. Lack of hormones can do this too. Surely you can afford a doctors appointment. They have a new premarin pill out now that is only .45mg and this is what I take. Premarin is quite expensive though. If you deside to get some premarin then try to get your doctor to okay a three month supply because it is cheaper to buy that way. Although it is quite a bit out of the pocket all at once.
I wish I could tell you that there was something out there for you but there just is not anything from my experience and you may end up spending way too much money trying to find an over the counter cure.

If you have a library, there are many books to read. You may can get free pamphlets from a doctors office. You might go online to site where real doctors answer questions. Be sure it is for real.
