Innocent monks that would never walk on grass to avoid stepping on ants, are getting killed by the military. Here's our dilemma: Should we go in to stop this and be castigated again for invading other countries or should we let the U.N. handle this? (Oh boy, the Monks are really screwed with the latter). And before anyone starts with the obvious response, Burma DOES have oil.

My attitude has changed over the years regarding things like this. No matter what we do, we will be deemed evil. If we go in, we will be criticized by the world and by people here. If we do nothing, same thing.

I say let them handle the situation themselves or let some of the other countries take care of it for a change. Why not ask France to help?

Outside intervention might be required. The monks and their followers are outgunned by the military dictatorship. The UN will do nothing, because China will veto any decision against the junta in the Security Council.

The United States can't intervene because it is already stretched thin, but other countries can do something.

The big question is what kind of intervention would be helpful. Even if a foreign military goes in, some military action can help and some can harm the anti-junta cause.

I highly doubt that Burma have oil. If they have oil why didn't US invade them immediately after the riots incident? I think its absurd that Bush vented his anger in the UN, compared to what he has committed in Iraq. But I agree with you that if US interfere other nation business, by claiming that they are upholding democracy, they also definitely need to do the same in Burma.

Why should we do anything? The second America lifts a finger to help the rest of the world will be screaming about how evil we are and that we are only out to invade and destroy another country.

It's Burma -- let the Burmese handle it. If the people of Burma don't help themselves, there's no use anyone else doing anything.

I think if there is a place you use your military to "create peace and democratic government" thats is the place. NOT IRAQ. Of course, we can't make money on Burma, so we let those people die. SHAME ON THE US GOVERNMENT.
