Hi there, I have long been interested in starting up my own security company after completing military service. This would work on a contractual basis (for instance, a research and development establishment would offer a contract to guard and protect it's property and assets).

I would aim to recruit primarily ex-military personnel, but would of course consider applications from ex-armed police officers etc etc. My question is, are any such private security personnel, working in the UK itself, allowed to be armed, given our civilina gun laws?

Thanks!

Apologies, I meant "civilian".

Whether ex-army or not, no private citizen may carry a firearm save as entitled by law, this is restricted to hunting rifles and shotguns (with appropriate certificates) and sporting rifles used for target practice.

The answer is, as you may have guessed, no - without reservation.

No - the police have to have dispensation to carry firearms, so I can't imagine a Court giving that sort of leeway to a private company.

No....no private security personnel are armed....the only exception may be the Atomic Energy Authority...and their guards, but I think they are unarmed as well...so in answer..no you can't. and thank god for that.
