I guess many of you must be too young to remember but before Bill Clinton was elected, the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress almost continuously for over forty years. Yes, even through the Reagan administration. If you ask me, the Republicans, when they controlled both houses of Congress, seemed more uncomfortable to be in the majority. They were far too accommodating to the Democrats.

Talk about obstruction of the minority, what have the Republicans done that even begins to compare to the unprecedented filibustering of Presidential nominees? Nominees that would have been confirmed if they were allowed to be voted on?

Believe me, the Democrats are much better at throwing their weight around in Congress either as minority or majority party. They can pass any legislation they want if they have a mandate to do so.

The reason things like cutting funding for the troops has failed is because, in reality, the Democrats do not want it passed. They just want credit for bring it up to appease the anti-war left. At no time has there ever been 100% of the Democrats voting for that issue. The Democrats are masters at this game. They have the Democrats in the most liberal districts vote for it and the Democrats who only got elected in traditionally Republican districts by running as moderates or even as conservatives to vote against it.

They have no desire to spend all of their political capital insuring our defeat in Iraq no matter what statements they make. Their entire strategy was to get the President to do it so they would not reinforce the perception that Democrats are weak on defense.

There will be troops in Iraq long after GW Bush is retired.

We're getting 'fresh blood' in - both parties need to do this. The old guard of both parties need to go home and hang it up. Have you ever seen more 'negative' people in your life? They seem to get up ugly ...... Do they realize nobody cares what they have to say anymore? This 'do nothing Congress' is a waste of time!
