The news industry has a saying, "If it bleeds, it leads." They know people are morbidly fascinated with disaster.
I don't think the world is that much worse than it was 50 years ago. Sure we hear about more violence, but that's because there are 24-hour news channels trying to fill airtime, and technology has made it easier for people to learn something happening on the other side of the globe within minutes. We've somehow become conditioned to want everything in neat little packages so we can gulp them easily.
I know it's hard not to worry--I worry as naturally as I breathe--but do what you can to make the world a better place. Contribute in some small way to improving things. Hopefully, others will follow your example.

I think the media, internet etc has just made it easier for us to know what is happening around the world, back in the day if there was a natural disaster on the other side of the world, it took us forever to find out, if at all...now days we respond at once, the red cross sends out forces, and the media is there catching the event.
Global warming, humans selfishness, and war takes it's toll, and the population is much greater than decades ago, so there will be more death, and wars..and everything else that comes with overpopulation and greed!

I completely agree! It is sad but true and it's been going on for centuries. Turning off the TV doesn't make it go away... The ugliness of war, pain, suffering, famine, starvation, disease, and natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, cyclones, and tsunamis will continue until nature corrects the wrongs and the world may someday know peace and true happiness.

There are no more disasters, deaths, wars, etc., by percentage of population, than there have ever been. What there is is a lot more people than there have ever been, and much more effective media of every little incident, magnifying it in the eyes of the public.
The Earth will be around long after humans have left the building, believe me.

I wonder what we would do if we had none of today's
conveniences ? Like cars, Planes , Air conditioning
T.V. ETC. and of course e-mail .
The media is so large today you simply know more about what is going on around the world today , compared to say 50 years ago . Population has grown and so has the demand for more & more & more of everything to meet demand for all those
conveniences . You can slow down the enevitable but you can not stop it .

Believe it or not-
You are on the first steps of the the journey to enlightenment.
When the young Buddha was hunting, he spared the life of a creature, only to see it perish at the hands of another. Upset, he wondered if pain and suffering were inevitable.
Depending on how you feel, you may follow his path at your own pace.
