look, i was breastfeeding my bubba, and my sister bottle fed, if your bottle feeding, then what you do is just add a bit more water to one feed, when he is having solids.
because there is mainly water in the formula, he is getting enough fluids.
if you want instead of ahving just water, try diluting ribena with water, so it's mostly water. and gradualy, you can put less ribena or juice in the bottle. give it a try, and hopefully every thing goes ok.
with the constipation, try adding diluted prune juice to a rice cereal, or weetbix,
it did the trick with my bubba

As everyone else with knowledge & experience said, do not worry about the water until after 12 months.
However, I needed to add a small sidenote in response to someone's suggestion: NEVER give a baby honey. Babies less than a year old should not ingest honey because it may contain poison in the form of botulism-causing bacteria. If you wish to sweeten the baby's water, use a little juice. As far as corn syrup, The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that due to the potential theoretical risk of botulinum contamination babies should also not be given corn syrup that has not been pasteurized (sterilized) or declared "botulism spore free".
What are parents & grandparents thought were good remedies are not always safe. It is important to catch up on new readings for what is healthy for our children. If you are unsure, ask your pediatrician.

Is he in pain? If he is just pooping less, that is normal.
My breastfed almost 9 month old sometimes gets water. Maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 an ounce in a whole day. She prefers a straw sippy cup or sometimes a regular sippy cup. If she gets thirsty on the one night daddy has with her while I am in class (gone less than 2 hours, in between when she would normally nurse) daddy gives her a teeny bit of water to tide her over. Most of it gets on her instead of in her. They don't need the water at this point, but if it's a choice of water or juice, give a little water. But, I would just let baby nurse more. Always feed solids after a nursing session at this age too. Maybe that would help out.

Is he drinking formula or breastmilk? If yes, then he does not need water at all...there is plenty of water in breastmilk and formula, if he is drinking the recommended amounts per day. Also, foods contain water, so he is getting hydrated through fruits, veggies, etc. also. If you are finding the constipation to be an issue, you could try a little apple juice and see if that helps. But, continue to offer him water at meals...my son never drank from a bottle either due to breastfeeding, but he would drink from a sippy cup. Good luck!

He does not need water! Water will fill him up with empty nutrition. Keep feeding him breast milk/formula. If he gets constipated, try cutting back how much solids he is eating. Remember that at this age solids are only for practice, all of his nutrition comes from breast milk/formula until 12 months of age.

hi.. your baby has only just started solids and i assume you are breastfeding as you say he won't take a bottle...please do not worry about him refusing water,he does not need any extra water at this age if he is breastfeeding..being mildly constipated means his poos are firming up now he isn't only drinking milk...let his body adapt in its own time..your milk will change to meet his needs as he grows so don't give yourself any further stress about this, just enjoy your baby.

Everyone is assuming you are giving formula but perhaps you are breastfeeding. If so, keep doing it! He certainly needs liquids so whatever you were giving him before, formula or breastmilk, give him first before you offer the solid food, as if he's hungrier he's more likely to accept the liquids. Watered down juice, as suggested elsewhere, is a good idea but not corn syrup...sugar won't do him any good.

He doesn't need water at all. Give him his formula. If he won't drink from a bottle, put his formula in a sippy. He still needs the nutrition from formula. Giving him water will just fill him up so that he won't want formula.
Good grief, why are all of these people telling you to feed an infant water, when it still needs formula. And Propel, for pete's sake?

Don't worry, he doesn't even need water yet. Enough with breastmilk or formula (solids at this point shouldn't be his primary source of nutrition), just offer a bit more if you think he could need extra fluids.
