It is a conspiracy. Just a subtle way of declaring biological war on us.

I believe it to be more interesting asking the question:
How can we honestly say we care about stuff when we on a daily basis are "voting" with our money.
Some things like embroidered quilts, tunics, some jewellery are not only produced by children, they could very well be produced by what they call a criminal. A criminal isn't always a bank robber, it could well be a political active person.
We vote with our money on a daily basis. buy what you know has been produced within a set of standards you personally support. And make an effort to support your own community.
As for peculiar product ingredients - lets not forget our own legacy: exactly what is in a coke and other soft drinks? Apart from water and sugar. Our own readily produced toothpaste may well contain a de-greaser most commonly used to clean floors at car mechanics workshops, that is legal. Our meat contains hormones, legally, and some parabens (conservations in hygienic products and toiletries) increases the risk of boys being born with deformed genitals. These are banned in Denmark as of the 1/1-2008.
Antifreeze in Chinese toothpastes is a strange choice, but I am saying that we allow strange things in products where they really shouldn't be at all. We just give them fancy names.
Personally I only buy stuff I know the history of and I don't buy an awful lot of new things these days. It is truly appalling what they are allowed to sell.
We can only be vigilant about what it is we buy and where it is produced. This is unfortunately not the first time we are to experience something like this

My toothpaste (Crest) has a warning label on it that says if you swallow more than a toothbrush full you should call Poison Control immediately. I don't know but I suppose other brands do to in order to remove liability from the manufacturer. At least there is a warning. It is a little different to allow lead paint knowingly and without warnings on toys meant for children who will certainly be chewing and sucking on them. Lead is extremely harmful to children and causes death or failures of many of the organs and it stays in their body for a long time. Lead in paint was banned in most of Europe around 1900 and banned in the US in 1978.

The Chinese Communist Party has a smart plan to poison the USA and all western countries with lead but it was discovered. The Chinese Communist Party will switch to cadmium in children's toys, antifreeze in toothpaste, melamine in milk powder. And The Chinese Communist Party will destroy USA economy with counterfeit Gucci, LV, Prada and other handbags, and copying Google with a website Baidu.

Maybe if they added the anti-freeze to dog and cat toothpaste they wouldn't fight so much when getting their teeth brushed.
