I personally go to local auctions and just look for cheap items that I think may sell. Ebay is only one outlet for items. I sometimes use Craigslist. You get free ads and the profit is greater. My wife has a gift shop and she sells the old stuff also. When the weather is good I go to local garage and flee market sales. You pick-up some great bargains there.

It appears, many of the retailers on ebay, purchase their goods from wholesalers, just like any other retailer.
For example: I just purchased a package, of assorted stainless steel pipe plugs, for about $22..00. Had I purchased them individually, they would have cost $40.00. Most, likely this particular retailer, purchased each of the four sizes, he sold me, in boxes of 100, and repackaged them as an assortments.
I may have been able to secure the same price he did, by purchasing them form the same source. However, I would have had to purchase four hundred pipe plugs, not eighteen.
