Well you said you previously installed Nortan Anti-Virus and now you have installed AVG and want to uninstall the previous Norton Anti-Virus but you aren't able to do so. Its not in the uninstall programms list. Ok here are some steps you can do to overcome to problem.

1- go to start>run>msconfig. In the Startup Tab, see which programms are running at windows startup. If you see Norton in the list. Uncheck it. click Apply.Close it. It will ask you to restart the computer to apply the changes. Ok, Restart the computer.
On restart, you will see a dialog box. Dont worry, simply Check on that dialog box.
2- check the Norton Anti-virus software in the Control Pannel>Add remove programms.
3- If its not there then ok, close control pannel
4- Go and check the Directory in which your have installed the Norton Anti-virus software
for exa: C:\Programm Files\Norton or etc etc
OR
may be D:\ or E:\ .
5- If you find a folder which still exists by the name of Norton Anti-virus, delete the entire folder, its sub-folders, every single file under its sub-folders etc etc...
6- Now while you do this process some of the files will not allow you to delete them. Coz they might be in use with other system process. Dont worry.

7- Close every application.
8- Restart the computer in safe Mode. (You might be knowing what is safe mode) while booting press F8, and you will be prompted to enter in Safe Mode or Normal Mode. Select Safe Mode.
9- Once you are on and started your windows in safe mode, carry out the above method of deleting folders and files. step no.5.
10- Most probably you will be able to delete all files. On doing that, go to start>search.
In search, select "All files and Folders" , and write "Norton" or similar word which will search any left over file(s) of Norton software. If in result still you find some, delete those files as well. Once you are over with that, i.e. after deleting every file of Norton, close the search dialog box.
11- Now every software ,be it a Game, an mp3 player, corel draw .... any damm software , has an entry in the registry. We should also clear (delete) that entry.
12- Go to Start>Run>regedit. Hit enter
13- Now registry is a very complicated and complex thing. Each and every software, services and other process has its respective entry in this registry. So take care that you dont delete other entries. It might even crash your good running computer....!
14- Now do as i say. Once you open the registry, you will see this:-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

- we have to go in 3rd i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

- In that follow the path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\. Now here in "software", you will see list of folders. In that you will find a folder Name "Norton" or something like that. Simply delete it. Once again check it twice, thrice before deleting that it is Norton and not something else. Once you are done with that. Close the registry Editor. i.e. registry (dont be confused)

- close every application, restart and you have solve the problem.

the steps which i mentioned above will mostly do things for. if your still have any problem, post your query again, and i will help you again.. Ok bye and have nice time......!

Something doesn't make sense. If Norton has detected viruses then why doesn't it remove them? Your Norton should remove detected viruses regardlesss of whether your subscription has expired. If you do decide to renew your subscription then Norton will update your virus definition list. How do you know that your computer has viruses. Is a non-Norton program telling you? If that is the case then you may have a trojan (a fake anti-spyware program) on your system.
