pi is a constant when you take the ratio:

pi = c/d

where
c is circumference
d is diameter

we can rewrite the equation as

c = pi x d ... (1)

So, the relationship between the diameter and the circumference is:

d : c

from (1), substitute c = pi x d, we get,

d : pi x d

divide both sides by d, we get,

d/d : pi x d/d

1 : pi

This means that if the diameter is 1, then the circumference is pi (3.1415926) times larger.

Note: An analogy is that if you run around a circle and I run along the diameter, when you complete your circle, I would have ran along the diameter about 3X.

So the circumference is 3.14X larger than the diameter.

c = 3.14 x d

It means for a perfect circle, the ratio of diameter to circumference is 1/3.14

So if the diameter is 2, the circumference is 6.28

2πr = circumference of circle
2r = diameter
πd= circumference of circle
d= circumference of circle ÷ π

∴ a whole (1) circumference of circle ÷ π
= 1 ÷ π
= diameter of the circle
