You sand blasted aluminum? You're screwed. And not in a nice way.

Hello and you have a good question. The best around professionals to help you would be some one who does Plating.
Have you ever been to a Hotel and the Telephones are Chrome or Gold Plated? Look them up in your local Phone Book (yellow pages) first they will soak the parts in a vat then rinse and soak in a solution to cure the metal or Alloy then you can ether have it Powder Coated witch is like or how the frame is done on any bike thees days or you can have it Plated they will dip it in and Electroplate the parts using a negative current and the plating will attach it's self to the charged part. The only thing is that you MUST take the precaution on any fastener or stud that will put the case together Tap and clean all the threaded case boss holes. Most of the time they will strip out and then you need to Helacoil them. That is replacing the taped threads, make them vary strong but cost about $10 ****** also every place a gasket would be you would need to remove the plating. A BIG JOB AND COSTLY. Now you can do what all us Mechanics do keep a spare can of High TEMP Black in your box for around $4.00 a can....This is clearly the smart choice. But hay at least you learnt something today by someone who junked an Eng case and had to spend $400.00 buck to replace it when he was 15 years old LOL Good luck my friend... Robert

You can sand blast bike cases but you have to be very careful to get all the sand out because any sand left in nooks and crannies will ruin the motor, you can polish the cases then get them powder coated clear. Which will hold up well.

If you're determined to blast it, use something softer like ground walnut hulls or cherry pits. If some of that stuff gets inside your engine, it won't destroy it like sand will.
