I have a large slope that is full of daylilies. While I love them, it is just too much. I would like to kill them off and start fresh. It is just too large of an area to dig. I have tried spraying Roundup on them to kill them, but it didn't work. Does anyone know what will kill them off?

There a poisons available that will kill them but they have along lasting residue effect, ie nothing else will grow for years.
They grow from bulbs/tubers which have stored food/energy and will need regular spraying, try roundup with pulse(a penetrant)
Or mow the area, treat it like a lawn and spray with a Selective spray(Hormone based) which usually works on non grass species
What ever you do it will take time

Cover them up with black plastic for a season. But, if it's too hard to dig, how are you going to plant anything new?

You could put down several layers of newspapers, then put new dirt on the top of that, and see if it kills them off. Maybe you could also try mowing them next year, and keep them mowed.

Good luck.
