I guess it's good that so many people think that actors actually get aroused during a sex scene. Like others have already said, scenes like this are so tedious and technical if you had ever had to do one yourself you would never think again think of one of these scenes as sexy. There are crew people around holding boom mics over you, there are cue card people, the supervising producer, the script superviser, the grips, soooo many people making sure that the lighting is just right and all the technical aspects look good would you feel 'in the mood'? Also, as an actor, you often have to perform these seemingly sexual acts in such akward positions so that the camera can get a good shot that you're sore afterward and not in a good way. Neck and back kinks are not fun. And we're talking about HOURS just to get one angle, then you get to do it from the OTHER Side! No actor is going to hold his 'ping' through all that. Believe me when I tell you that it is not the least bit sexy after the first time through and often it takes several takes to get it right.
So if people continue to think that people are really having sex or that actors get arroused (sometimes they do, but certainly not the whole time!) then the actors are doing a great job!

A friend of mine is an actor in low budget movies and during a sex scene with a particular beautiful actress his penis went "ping". The only thing he was wearing were silk boxers and she was topless and had silk short shorts on. The scene was with him on top and he was riding her. Even though the crew was all around him he got aroused. His penis was grinding on her vagina and not only did his penis go "ping" it he also ejaculated while his penis was pressed up against her vagina. He said it was no different than having regular dry sex with a woman. The actress knew what he had done and thought of it as a complement and the crew thought he was a lucky guy.

What you and I see as a very steamy sex scene is actually a very difficult and tedius setup.
Imagine that you're a man making love with a woman whom you may/may not be attracted to in that fashion. Just b/c you're with a gorgeous girl doesn't mean she's not a b**** behind the scenes.
That, plus the added difficulty of trying to "perform" in front of a series of men and women whom you barely known, sticking microphones and cameras barely a few feet away from you, hot blinding lights shining on you all the while, and you'll come to realize there's very little sexy stuff in a sex scene.
If, despite all this, an actor still gets an erection, I'm sure it's handled in a professional manner. After all, how many times do you actually get to see the front of a guy in a sex scene?

In mainstream productions, there is no sex happening in a sex scene. Those scenes you see on TV where the actors seem naked are actually shot artfully so that no "naughty bits" are displayed--and the actors cover up their "nbs" with little bits of adhesive moleskin. Hence, no 'ping'.
In film or onstage, the actors might be totally naked--but again, the demands of the performance prevent actual arousal--actors who are so casual as to get an actual erection onstage are thought to have too little focus.
In porn films, I think they rely on drugs, tho' that's a part of the industry I've only heard about.

This is avoided by rehearsing the sex scene. My mother is an actress. She had to shot a romantic scene.
So before actual shooting, my mother and actor had rehearsal for many times. During rehearsal, only actor and actresses are there. No other people are there.
During rehearsal, my mother was naked or nude. She had wore only her undergarments.
My mother then allowed the actor to have sex in reality with her.
Desire for sex of the actor diminished and then the actual shooting of that scene was carried out.

Usually in filming the "love scenes" there's usually on average 15 takes per scene and at any time 30 people on the set. Example, Tom Cruise and Rene Zelleweger scene in "Jerry Maguire" Tom wore jeans during the entire scene as the account of Rene as she was being interviewed on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Even if you watch cheesy b-rated porn on Cinemax at night, the male performers are hardly ever aroused.

theres nothing more unsexy , than having 40 people standing about watching you
the problem for most of them is not it going " ping " but trying not to laugh at the absurdity of the situation

Some of them have themselves secured with a sock, then taped around with leukoplast if it won't be seen by the camera.
