Australia has many working automated lighthouses, and at least 2 manned ones ! People sign up for a 12 month to 2 year stretch, and get to live on their own deserted island. Unfortunately, the islands are not in the tropics, so mostly it's cold, wet and windy. Yet they still get takers. I think they only take married couples.

just to be clear about American lighthouses.
Almost all are still there.
Some have turned off their lights and become private property.
Most however still have their lights burning and are still "Aids to Navigation" maintained by the Coast Guard.
None however are manned anymore; it's all automated and the job "Lighthouse Keeper" has become part of history.
I've sailed umpteen thousand miles with everything from just a compass and a sextant to the latest state of the art microprocessor fired electric gizzmos; NOTHING is as comforting and definitive as seeing a lighthouse come up over the horizon.

Yes, there are some in the New England states like Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusettes. They arent used anymore, but stand as monuments. Due to technology, we dont need this source of light and giudance anymore, but they lighthouses are nice to look at...

There are still many lighthouses around the coast of the UK. However, none of them are now manned, all having been automated. There are also lightships, also all now unmanned. For more details have a look at:- http://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/

They are still used and they're still around as monuments if nothing else. There have been lighthouses for thousands of years - one of them was one of the great wonders of the world.
With radar and GPS positioning and such they're no longer needed as they once were.

They are still there , but not used in day to day sea life , because of technology, but still the old sailors love to say stories about light houses, My Father was a sailor, Still he remembers the myths and folks about light houses, now a days no body is using them much

Yes, but most are now automated.
There aren't as many as in days of yore, due to better charts and new navigational technology (i.e. radar).
