A couple of months ago my husband and I bought a rug from a major dept. store for $650. A week later we decided it didn't work in our living room so we called and cancelled the order and told them to not deliver it and to send us store credit instead. A week later it was sitting on my doorstep. I called the manager and complained and told them they have to come back and get their rug and please send our refund. Two days later we decided it could work in another room. I immediately called the manager and told him that we will just keep it after all. Just recently when I got the mail I saw that the store had accidentally sent us that store credit for the cost of the rug ($650) My husband says just keep it but I don't feel comfortable. What would you do??? It is so tempting but I feel it is wrong. Should we keep it for a future purchase or call and return it?

If you really like the Rug, Return the money;
but maybe after second Thought that you do not like the Rug, Keep the Money but return the Rug.

Bear in Mind, the Guy who returns you the Money or the Guy who is Supposed to collect the Rug will still be held responsible for your selfish action.

If You keep the Rug & Keep the Money, your Guilty Conscience will Keeps Bitting you everytime you step on the Rug.!

On the worst Case Scenario, one guy could lose his job!. Probably he got two kinds to feed and a baby coming soon. Tomorrow he could be trying sesperately looking for a job, no thanks to your Husband's SELFISH action.

What if the Scenario is Reversed, and you are the person working it that Rug Store,... Go Figure!

You should absolutely return the refund. $650 is not enough money to live with a guilty conscience. In fact, no amount of money is enough. You will also feel very good about yourself for having done the right thing. Remember, the store was good enough to issue the credit in the first place.

Morality isn't centered on whether or not you get caught. By the way, somewhere, somehow, someone is going to pay to balance the books on a missing rug.
Remember, real honesty is what you do when no one's looking.

I would call the store manager again and tell him you received the store credit, and let him decided if you get to keep it or not. It's not like you earned it, so losing it shouldn't hurt.

You apparently know the difference between right and wrong. Your husband does not. Not only is it against the law but it is wrong. You wouldn't want someone to cheat you, why would it be okay just because its a business. Someone must make up the loss.

Call the store and tell them. Honestly, really is the best policy. Cheaters never win. You will get caught and then you will look like creepy, dishonest, idiots.

I do not know what the dollar limit is, but if you steal something under an x-amount of dollars it is a misdemeanor, after an x-amount of dollars it is a felony. If you get caught, it could possibly be a felony.

EVERY TIME you look at this rug from now till 'forever' you are going to remember what happened !!! Better to have a clear conscience i think......(of course it is tempting!!!)
