My hamster is about 7 weeks old, just got back from the pet store after I returned him because he had wet tail. They nursed him back to health. Last night he ran on his wheel all night long, tonight he is just curled up in a ball in his house, seems to be sleeping a lot. I checked, no wet tail, he is eating and though I haven't seen him drink his water bottle is working. Help - what could this be?

keep an eye on him. wet tail is a pretty nasty disease and it might have taken its toll on your little guy. saying that, although hamsters are gererally pretty active at night, sometimes they can be quite lazy - especially boy hamsters! yours is quite young though...does he have lots of other things to keep him occupied other than just his wheel? my hamster has a very big cage filled with lots of tubes, toys, a sand pit, wheel etc. he also has a big run that he comes out in when he wants. some nights he doesn't ask to come out at all, some nights he wants to come out and then just potters round the run a bit and other nights he comes out and runs round the run like a nutter all night!

keep a close eye on what he is eating and drinking and whether he is weeing and pooing as normal. if he stops doing any of things things normally i would take him to a vet. if he hasn't got more active after a few nights, again i would take him to a vet.

Don't worry too much. Like you said, he ran on the wheel the whole night, so most probably he is just tired from all that running and is just resting.

Laziness?
anyway, i don't know much about hamsters, but if he eats OK he is probably fine. If he is too lethargic or he continues to be like this for more than 1 day, take it to the vet.
