It depends on the state, in some states you can work in a law office for so many years and then take the bar exam (California is one of them).

If your state is not one of these states (please let us know which state you are in), then you would have to have a Bachelor's Degree (in any type of field), take the LSAT, go to law school, and pass the bar exam.

If you are a paralegal then you have achieved the first step. Experience is very important in the legal field. A paralegal tends to do a lot of the same work as a trainee solicitor would but gets paid a half the money. In order to become a solicitor you need to complete a law degree or GDL and then complete the legal practice course. Finally you need to get a training contract at a firm.

If you have a bachelor's degree already then all you would need to do is take the LSAT exam and apply to schools. If not, you must have a bachelor's degree (I recommend a degree in business, criminal justice unless you want to specialize your practice of law). HOpe this helps.

You would have to go back to school and get a least a jd in law.
