The balance of power inevitably shifts, as it did to some degree this offseason.

Granted that the West still holds sway, the East made some huge strides in balancing the leagues. Garnett and Allen going to the Celtics makes them a legit contender to knock off anyone. Orlando adding Rashard Lewis was huge. Dwight Howard is going to be incredible and the Magic are really starting to look legit. Miami is still a title contender, so long as Wade's shoulder has healed, particularly if they do even minor tinkering via trade (adding Mike Bibby or Andrei Kirilenko, for instance). A very underrated New Jersey team was able to add Jamaal Magloire, in addition to getting back a healthy Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krystic, and I could easily see them winning 55+ games. The Pistons are still a very tough team, the Bulls are a few moves away from being legitimate title contenders, and the Cavs, last year's Finals representative, have the most explosive player in the NBA in Lebron James. At any given time the Cavs could sign or trade for someone (such as a Shawn Marion, Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Emeka Okafor, Gilbert Arenas, etc---all of whom could be free agents after the season) that would put them over the top.

So while I agree the West is the favorite, having the Spurs and some championship caliber potential in Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, and possibly Utah, I'm still not sure that it's in any way inevitable that the West will win it.

The East has won 2 of the last 4 NBA championships, afterall, and they just got better this offseason, not worse.

If the East is so bad why do they lead the championships 34-25?

History tells us that Boston is the winningest team in the NBA... Where are they situated? No need to answer. When the Bulls were lords of the NBA lands, the only question is who are they going to meet in the Finals. That's how superior the East was (Houston stole two for the West but is humbled by the Bulls 6 title run).

Admittedly the East are on a low now... But the tides are changing and the Big Guns are going from the West to the East (one good example is Garnett).

So please don't always conclude that the West is superior for history will tell you that they have been whipping boys of the East.

Hope this helps.

No, that's the stuipdiest idea I've ever heard in my life. What are you going to do just close down half the league? Tell half the players to retire? Leaves cities without an NBA team? Just because the eastern conference didn't when the championship last years means they stink??? In the past 4 years both conferences have won two championships so you make no sense.

i think of the East is the greater effective convention now. look, the West has the Lakers and a set of loss of existence powers. The Mavs, Suns, or maybe Spurs to an quantity are shells of the powerhouses that they have got been 2-3 years in the past. New Orleans, Denver, Portland, Houston, and Utah all look stable yet they're too inconsistent. in the East you have the Magic, Celtics, and Cavaliers who could probable be in maximum everybody's acceptable 5 in the NBA. The Pistons are continuously aggressive, The Sixers are on the upward push. enable's settle for it, the East is increasing the and the West is loss of existence.

Even though the East has been sucking, they are really good this year.

Think about it, Rashard Lewis was traded from Seattle to Orlando.
Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, now on the Boston Celtics.
Jason Richardson now on the Bobcats.
I think the East will gradually improve but the West will prevail to be the best conference.

no, the nba should either do as #1 said, or make a limit of 1-2million max pay for players, so that the teams with less money will have a good chance to keep/get good players. Ticket prices can go down, or they could stay the same and then the government could tax the **** out of them, sort of like they do with casino's.
