I agree with most of those who have answered already, which is that many, if not most, scientists do believe in God. I am a scientist, and work in a university research lab. Most of the scientists I know (and I know a LOT of them) believe in God. They may not all be of the same religion or denomination--I know Catholics, Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists, Jews, Muslims, Presbyterians, Mormons--but they overwhelmingly believe in God.
In contrast, I know few, if any, atheists; most of those who are not particularly religious would be at least agnostic rather than claim that God does not exist. Actually, a claim that God does not exist is not scientific; no scientist should ever make a claim that something cannot be true, because it he or she cannot claim to know everything.

It's not essential that a scientist must be a non God believer. On the otherhand many scientists are God believer. Spirituality doesn't against the science and the scientist are also an human being. So they can also have feelings like other human beings.Their thinking ability, analysing anything has a wider span than others. So they can think about the God with a defferent angle. It is not necessary that a God believing person must go to Temple, preyers, but anybody who belives the existance of God should have a sence that there is something in this world which controlls the entire activities of the whole Universe. We can call the same as God/Bhagwan/Parmeshwar.

please read whole of this, it will surely have an effect on you:
well i think so. although i know i have little experience as compared to most other believers(i am 15) but i know science and maths are the only things i am good at and i strongly feel that all the believers are wrong at the way they look this all(i prefer not calling it universe). 'His' power and existence and will is just not a satisfactory scientific explaination of any process going around. 'He' is just an assumption and science(a well organised research) does not allow us to take abstract assumptions, it allows us to believe in conclusions. and no one has ever(i mean ever) proved that 'His' existence and everything is a conclusion to anything. you cannot scientifically believe in 'Him'. so till the date someone scientifically proves the existence of 'Him', a scientist should necessarily be a non believer, just as no scientist was a believer in the existence of atoms or protons, electrons and neutrons and quarks until sufficient scientific proof was provided in the favour of their existence.
and about others answers, i wanna say that the bible, koran, guru granth saheb and bhagwat gita were written by those people only who had said the rains come from the gods, the earth is the centre of the universe, the earth is flat and how can you believe in a book in the very beginning of which it is written that the universe started when a sound of 'Om' had emerged in nothingness, when we now know that sounds always needs a medium to travel in and that is common sense because sound is nothing but vibration of particles and that cannot happen in nothingness. it is impossible even if god exists. and one more thing, everyone has to agree that day by day we are uncovering facts and due to these facts, the belief in god is lessening all over the world. god was just another wrong thought of the primitive human brain and not only physical science does not approve of his existence, it says his existence is impossible.

Since the existence of a god cannot be proved or disproved, a scientist (or anyone) can believe whatever they want. Although centuries of science have shown that many phenomena previously attributed to a god are now easily explained, that still does not prove that there is no god. It just shows that we know much less about this god (if it exists) than we thought.
Anyway, the answer to your question is no. There is no reason why a scientist must believe that no god exists.
On the other hand, there is very little evidence that a god exists, so there is very little reason why a scientist should believe that a god exists.

Being a scientist does not preclude belief in God. God's existence cannot be proven or disproven scientifically, because science deals with nature and God is by definition supernatural, not part of the natural realm. But because God's existence cannot be proven, that does not mean He does not exist. So most scientists, I suspect, are agnostic, meaning that they do not necessarily believe or disbelieve in God, but until His existence can be proven or disproven, to them the jury is still out.

Scientist were not born in a day .. these people learnt science that was discovered by people from centuries of hardwork .. these ancestors of ours responsible for the discoveries believed in god and used their creativity to make things that made human life easier to exist in this nature ... which is what we call science today .... down the line with more success boosted man's ego and he started considering himself more smarter then god ... which we call scientist today ... even millions of years from now ... no scientist can stop nature's (which again is a form of god) fury .... its only because of ignorance and ego he refuses to believe in god ... can any scientist answer a question why he was born to parents who could provide him with education that made him or her a scientist and not born to some beggar on the street ... see instead of thanking god for that he/she still agrees to disbelieve in god .....
.... if you consider such small things in everday life ... like why iam sitting comfortably on the net and asking a question about god existence and not begging on the streets .. as why iam engineer, doctor, scientist .. etc and why i was not born as mentally retarded person .... even though i have all the luxury of life and no bad habits still why i have this deadly disease like cancer etc .., why that poor person is more happier then iam .... why luck is with him and not with me .. you know the day you find answers to such small things and the answer to your mere existence .. i think at time you will find god ....
