Griese isn't the long term answer for sure but for the short term I hope he's an improvement from Rex. He doesn't need to be phenomenal, he doesn't need to score every drive, he doesn't need to throw a ton of passes. He needs to not turn the ball over, he needs to throw enough to make the running game effective, he needs to put together drives long enough to give the defense some rest, he needs to capitalize on turnovers the defense is so good at creating. The defense has suffered some serious injuries and a lot of that has to do with the amount of time they spent on the field. Their good defense used to be a great defense, now they are getting wore out. And it's unrealistic to believe your special teams will out score your opponent.
Long term, the Bears will either develop Orton or draft someone else. I hope they at least give Orton a chance, he's a good QB and he obviously has more experience than a rookie would. Let's hope he learned more standing on the sidelines than Rex did.

Honestly, I see nothing wrong with Griese. Yeah, hes no Peyton manning or Tom Brady, but he sure isn't a Grossman or Losman. Look at the guys stats, the last time he played close to a full season was 2004 and he had a QB rating of 97.5 through 11 games. I was pretty shocked when Tampa cut him the next year. Yeah I know his most recent stats don't look good, but when you're a backup and change teams every year, you're not gonna put up the great numbers. Also, heres another thing to consider. The last teams hes played for were Denver, Tampa and Miami. All three of these teams still do not have a legit QB even after drafting QBs and bringing other veteran qbs in, which leads me to believe there are QB coaching issues with those teams. Really, I don't know why he hasn't hasn;t been given more of a chance to keep a starting job. I think the main thing hurting him is age. At 32, he may only have 3 or 4 years left. But, when you look at the Bears, they are setup to win the superbowl NOW, and may not be a few years down the road so does it really matter if hes a franchise QB or not? As long as he doesn't turn the ball over and can move the offense a little the bears will start winning again. Personally, I'm not a bears fan, but I expect big things to happen from this.

grossman has been crumbling under pressure and the offense is stagnant right now, but if he is supposed to be the qb of the future for this franchise... i think its a bad move. there are a lot of politics in this game as we all know and the people are not comfortable with grossman in the league, and even if grossman is the qb that is the best on the roster the coaches hand is forced to put in another qb just to satisfy the masses. the teams losing right now and thats just the facts right now. lovie has to do something and its a new look at qb. honestly i think griese should have been in the fold already. not as the full fledged starter but a package qb.... like the leinhart and warner situation in arizona. Grossman is not 100% ready to take the full load as qb yet, but he is definately a great deep ball qb when he has time. griese is a game manager that i think could do well in short yardage situations and i think that package should go on more often. i also am one to disagree with the personel lineups for the bears. I'd like to see berrian at the one and moose playing the two or slot switching in devin hester every so often. berrian has proven that he can be an effective wr so why not put him in against the champ baileys and mc alisters of the league and really challenge his mettle. because lets face it... moose is not No.1 material. never has been. hes always picked up the slack from the number 1 wr on every team he's played on. I also believe that the pass will appear better when the run game gets its act together. benson is not really posing to be the threat that defenses have to focus on to allow the bears play action passing game to be more effective. I think thats why grossman has been lookin so bad. grossman is a deer in the head lights out there because defenses are looking to stop him as opposed to stopping the run. long live the DA BEARS!!!!!

No, i think this is a mistake for the coach to bench him in favor of Brian Griese, Griese is even worst than Rex Grossman, how do you explain how Griese been trade by 4 teams already if he's really that good. But i think the Bears will go back to Rex Grossman after Griese fail miserably in the next game.

Grossman was good for at least one touchdown a game. Griese might have 2. But it's going to take more than that to turn the season around for the Bears.

It couldn't hurt, that's for sure. Griese has shown he can manage a game better. Grossman has shown he has the more explosive arm and potential. The Bears would be better served with game management than what Grossman could potentially give them.
Plus, I bet the team responds positively and gets extra-motivation for the next few weeks. That psychological boost always helps.

The Bears have been over rated all year, and now that the predictions from many sportcasters were found to be incorrect they found a scapegoat in Rex Grossman,it's true he sucked as a quarterback but to put all the fault on him is passing the buck, they have no running game, their receivers drop balls and their defense are not the monsters they were painted to be,the only positive thing the Bears have is their special teams

As long as Griese doesn't go out and lose the game for the bears like rex... throwing into tripple coverage and mishandling snaps from a pro bowl center. i think thier defense and devon hester can do enough to get the bears a win...

He wont make as many bad decisions as Grossman, but he also wont make the offense much more productive. Really this in itself is an improvement, as the Bears D' and special teams really just needs the offense not to lose the game most of the time.

No. Griese is a bum. If he was any good Chicago wouldn't have him. I think it's a rule with the Bears that the QB must suck.
