Assuming I am allowed to choose whomever I like....
PG John Stockton
SG Michael Jordan
SF Magic Johnson
PF Tim Duncan
C Bill Russell
G Steve Nash
G Julius Erving
F Jerry West
F Larry Bird
F Kevin Garnett
C Hakeem Olajuwon
C Wilt Chamberlain
Hmm... the major differences are Stockton over Robertson, Magic starting over Bird, then Nash over Kidd on the bench, along with Dr. J over Pippen, Garnett over Malone, and Olajuwon over Kareem. Like you, I would have Bird, West, and Chamberlain on the bench.
As far as Stock over Robertson, I'd just rather have, on a team full of stars, a point guard who looks to pass first. Plus, I think Stockton was an incredibly underrated defender. Magic starts over Bird for much the same reason---because I'd like to get as many passers and completely unselfish types as possible. I would choose Nash over Kidd because of his superior offensive game, both shooting and passing the ball. I'll let Russell, Duncan, Magic, and Olajuwon worry about cleaning up any mistakes Nash makes on defense. Erving gets the nod as well, and I think this is one of the major advantages I would have (if we can talk about advantages on such a broad, subjective topic), as Dr. J was one of the best all-around players in the history of the game. He'd be the first man off the bench. Garnett I feel is a better all-around player than Malone, and in the end I think history will agree. KG will go down as the 2nd best power forward (after Timmy, of course) of all-time. Finally, I'd take Olajuwon over Kareem because, in the end, I just think he might've been a better player. He was probably the most athletic 7-footer ever to play the game, with the best post moves of any big man ever, quick hands (1.7 steals per game!) and the ability to jump through the roof (3.1 blocks per!!). He never had anywhere near the talent around him that Kareem had, so he went a bit under the radar, but I think he was one of the best.
Well, there you have it. I'd like my chances on this one....

First of all, let me say that's one great line up. With a few exceptions. As much respect as I have for Russell and Wilt, I would replace them both with Haqueem and Robinson. Russell and Wilt were the best of their era, few would argue that Haqueem and Robinson were the most athletically gifted players in league history. I would also replace Kidd with either Isaiah or Stockton. You will never see a point guard carry a team on his shoulders the way Isaiah Thomas carried the Pistons in a very tough era. Stockton by the way is the all time assist & steals leader and is as tough as they come. One last thing, Pippen over Dr. J????

Great team, but it is all about the championship, so two minor changes .
F Karl Malone never won a ring, so I would put
F John Havlicek, 8 NBA rings (2 NBA rings after Bill Russell retired), 12 All NBA teams, 4th in NBA history in most NBA games played, 10th in NBA history in NBA total points
G Jason Kidd never won a ring, so I would put
G Bob Cousy, 6 NBA rings, 1 NBA MVP award, 12 All NBA teams, 8 consecutive NBA assists titles
Otherwise a great team hard to argue with.
