I'm part of the GSA at my school, and we'd really like to have a movie night on national coming out day. Unfortunately, we can't watch anything rated-R, and most movies dealing with being gay, coming out, and things of the sort are over pg-13.
So far I've found Saved! (which is great, but more focused on pregnancy and religion), and Sissy Frenchfry (but it's only half an hour long.)
Any suggestions?

Lianna, by John Sayles. It might be unrated, but it was made in the 80's so it's very tame by today's standards. There is one very brief scene that is somewhat racy, but nothing too graphic.

Not really a coming out movie, but Longtime Companion with Campbell Scott and Steven Caffrey is also watchable. It mainly deals with the early years of the HIV epidemic.

In trying to remember the name of Longtime Companion, I also turned up this website:

which is good. And let me tell you, I had to wade through a lot of garbage to get to it. Do not innocently type "gay movie" into google and expect a lot of links to arty cinema. :-)

I'm pretty sure The Truth about Jane fits.. It was made for TV, I don't think it has a rating at all...

Follow my voice: with the music of Hedwig is a good documentary.. The movie it stems from would not be appropriate.. (R rated) the documentary is more about the Harvey Milk school and the making of a tribute album as a fund raiser.. Interesting video diary entries from some of the students..

Another made for TV movie is Doing Time on Maple Drive.. it's not great.. but it's okay..

hmm.. not much else really .. everything with glbtq themes seems to be rated R.. ( some examples that would be perfect would be Beautiful Thing http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115640/ or Get Real http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162973/ which have NOTHING else objectionable.. but are still rated r)

You may try independent films, but they are usually only found on NetFlix. They have quite an inventory of such films that are not available at Blockbuster stores, nor in their online inventory. For $16.99 you can have a wealth of independent films and can even try their two week free trial. You may research their library, but unless you are a member, you will not be able to to search their entire list of films.

All Over Me is good. It's on IFC sometimes. I think it's PG-13. Nothing too crazy happens in it, but it's a good coming out, figuring out who you are movie.

Watch IFC. It has a TON of movies like that, and they're normally either unrated or mildly rated. Still very good.

You could watch a season of Will and Grace. It's funny and will lighten any stress about coming out.
