step 1: (-12)* 3= (d+9) <--times 3 on both sides you get this
step 2: ((-12) * 3) -9 = d
step 3: d = -45

1/3(d+9)=-12
Multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the fraction:
3/3(d+9)=-36
OR: d+9=-36
Subtract 9 from both sides: d=-45

1/3 (d+9) = -12
first you multiply 1 to d+9, you'd get
(d+9) /3 = -12
then multiply the whole equation by 3 to remove the denominator, thus
[(d+9)/3 = -12] X 3
d+9 = -36
d= -36 - 9
therefore, d= -45

multiply both sides by 3 to remove the denominator....
3(1/3)(d+9)=-12(3), then simplify
d+9=-36, then, transpose the constant to the right side
d=-36-9, you will get the value of d
d=-45

you have to get d by itself. what you do to one side of the equal sign you should do to the other.
start out 1/3 (d+9) = -12
times both sides by 3/1
you have d + 9 = -36
minus 9 from both sides
you are left with d = -45
its been a while since ive been in school so im not ENTIRELY sure this is the right answer.

1/3(d + 9) = - 12
1/3d + 3 = - 12
1/3d = - 15
d = - 45
Answer: d = - 45
Proof:
1/3(- 45 + 9) = - 12
1/3 * - 36 = - 12
- 12 = - 12
