Hi ANGEL.

Surprisingly, no, men & women do not have equal intelligence. Women have superior intelligence. (And this is in no way an attack on men.). It has been proven scientifically, mostly by men themselves.

The definition of intelligence is "the ability to learn," or "the ability to acquire knowledge."

However, I disagree with the studies, and feel that both women & men have the same "ability to learn;" it's just that men take a little longer to get there.

What the studies showed is startling. We all know that the left brain is for language, critical thinking, linear & analytical thought. The right brain is for emotion, creative thinking; that's where "intuition" comes from, arts, etc.

In the past, it used to be believed that men were left-brained and women were right-brained. With that type of belief, one would say that men are the critical, analytical thinkers, while women were the emotional, creative thinkers.

This theory has been debunked.

More recent studies have found that, due to biology, women are more intelligent than men. While it is true that men are left-brained thinkers, it is now known that women are BOTH left AND right brain thinkers, at the same time!

This means that when a women is analyzing a problem, she is using her left brain; but her right brain participates, giving her the creative edge. It is believed that this is where the concept of "women's intuition" came in.

For example, if you have 2 detectives working on a difficult case, they (a man & a woman) are studying the evidence & facts critically. This is left-brain thinking. While doing this, the man's access to the right brain is shut off, while the woman's access to the right brain remains active. So, while she is studying a problem with critical, analytical thinking, her right brain is also providing helpful creative & intuitive help.

The bottom line is that when using the left brain, men are limited to that; while women, on the other hand, have available to them the full spectrum of possible thought processes there are.

However, the reason I disagree with the study is that they are implying that men cannit utilise their right brain at all. However, they may start evaluating a problem with their left brain; but after finding no good results, may then shift to right-brain thinking to search for answers. Therefore, men can get to the root of problems, it just takes a bit longer to get there, as well as needing to work harder at it.

Maybe I am simply being magnanimous. Over the years men have had no difficulty saying that they were smarter than women. Now that we know the truth, that the opposite is true, women should simply do the same — gloat about it, hold it over men, making them feel inferior, "less than." But we don't. Maybe that's because when it comes to kindness, generosity, compassion, etc., women are superior also?

It makes one wonder.

---------------

However, I must include the fact that some people, men & women, tend to use their brains more than others. We men & women can probably balance things out by working hard & working together.

In the past, it has appeared that men were smarter than women. That is flawed. The reason it appears that way is because women were banned from education, from government, etc. Therefore it was the men who became famous as intelligent thinkers.

However, these days things have changed, and quickly, too. Now that women have full access (in theory) to all the educational opportunities that exist, we have seen an astounding number of women growing in the fields of acedemia, government, etc. Unfortunately, cultures develop at a slower rate. I know that there are far too many families who support the endeavors of their male children while dismissing the desires of their female children, thereby relegating them to a lower position in society.

But although times change slowly, the pace is picking up. The more that young women realize that the opportunities are there for them as well as their male counterparts, the quicker we will see things change. Fifteen years ago, I did not see very many female doctors. Now, however, the majority of doctors I am sent to are women. That is a quick change.

At the same time, there are many men who are taking formerly "women's" jobs, i.e., secretaries, nurses, etc. Maybe someday we will all accept people as individuals. Maybe the competition will stop (one can dream) and we will see people as separate beings, each with the same opportunities, each with their own capabilities and desires. Maybe we will stop labeling each other and, instead accept each other.

Hhmmmm.

Not everyone has equal intelligence. However, in general men and women have equal intelligence. I think, though, that the use of that intelligence may be different. (this is no t a LOL).

A study to be published later this year in the British Journal of Psychology says that men are on average five points ahead on IQ tests.Their research was based on IQ tests given to 80,000 people and a further study of 20,000 students. But beyond that age and into adulthood there is a difference of five points, which is small but it can have important implications.

This is against a background of women dramatically overtaking men in educational attainment and making very rapid advances in terms of occupational achievement."The academics used a test which is said to measure "general cognitive ability" - spatial and verbal ability. As intelligence scores among the study group rose, the academics say they found a widening gap between the sexes. There were twice as many men with IQ scores of 125, for example, a level said to correspond with people getting first-class degrees. At scores of 155, associated with genius, there were 5.5 men for every woman.

God gave equall intelligence for both.It doesn't matter whether you are a man or Women, its what we use.If you are channeling your intelligence in a proper way, then you will be on top.Use it in a fruitfull way and fulfill the purpouse of your life.Good luck dear!

Thank you.All the best.

Yes and no...In terms of IQ, men and women score equally on average. Men score better on some subtests (the performance ones) and women score better on others (the verbal ones). Men are more likely to be on either extreme of intelligence (giftedness or retardation). Women are more clustered in the middle. However, both genders' intelligence is normally distributed.

Yes, from observation at many levels in academe, business, politics, and community. But they are inclined to be different. It seems to me women often see whatever they see, quicker than men, whereas men sift through facts more deliberately. This can create different benefits. Women will often act while men plan. And it seemed to me women had a much better eye for detail than most men, though men's planning could be more thorough. But women can be more overtly subject to emotional influences in their responses - sometime for good, and sometimes not - but always to the unsettling alarm and confusion of men! What fun! And what opportunity for creativity with both of them, when they are working well together! Which is rarer than it should be.

I honestly believe that the male are blessed with a slightly higher intelligence in the pure sense of the term, but the female are better focused and more clear headed as well as purposeful. The reason in my view is that pure intelligence has a lot to do with the faculty of logic, whereas purpose and focus come from the integration and intensity of emotions.
However, one should never forget the inherent limitations of any generalization of this kind.

i think men and women have equal intelligence but i honestly believe a woman thinks different than men.......but this is not true of course in all cases............there is some really intelligent woman but at times i guess we all have our time of making mistakes............but i still feel most women think differently than most men..........i think a lot has to do with the way they are raised, their schooling,,and their moral values.

Honestly, i believe men are higher in intelligence. Philosophy and science were created because of two great philosophers. Plato and Aristotle, both obviously are from the male gender. Most astronomers, philopsophers and scientists are dominated by men. Obviously there is no equality of intelligence between men and women. Women are inclined more of their emotions. But these men owe their intelligence to the greatest mothers they have. Without their mothers care and love. I don't believe men will show their intelligence.

Have a wonderful day!

Actually, I would have to lean towards believing women to be more intelligent. In the long run, they are also more clever, trustworthy, just as industrious, and have a bountiful amounts of common sense.

All may be "created equal" but that does not mean that they stay that way throughout their lives. People have different capacities for learning, some strive to increase their knowledge and others do not. It is not a question of gender, it is a question of the individual.
