In 1964 my son was circumsized immediately after birth, in the delivery room, he never knew it happened. Many years later, as a nurse, I took care of babies done any time before discharge. Every hospital/birthing center is different. You and your Doctor can decide ahead of time when and also if you can be present at the time ofcircumcision and if you do or do not want to have baby circumcised. I believe some religions have significant input into this very personal decision. My personal suggestion is to do so as soon as possible if you are going to, and to not let the baby associate you with the pain he is going to have. You stay in the role of great comforter. By all means don't wait until he is 30, heh heh, because circumcision on adults is REALLY a bummer.

Most of the time, the circumcision will take place before you leave the hospital for home. You honestly don't want to be in the room while it's done. Your emotions will be running so high after birth I doubt you could handle seeing them snip your son. Definitely make sure your insurance covers the procedure. Many don't. In that case, it will cost about $100 and will usually have to be paid in advance.

They will take the baby out of the room, you don't want to be there! I promise. Make sure you request pain relief for the baby, believe it or not it is not always used.
It usually happens in the first 24h after the baby is born.

normally a doctor will do the circumsicion within 24-48 hours after birth by the time labor is done you will be so tired you won't even believe it please don't be stunned by my blunt honesty but labor is really hard on your body the circumsicion will only take about 15 minutes so you probably won't be in the room for it depending on the state you live in and the amount of exhaustion you will feel by the time it is done- but don't worry your baby won't remember it and they very rarely cry afterward because it's still sort of numb from the local anesthetic

Yeah absolutely! See the torture with your own eyes, maybe you'll start to feel guilty.

Look on youtube for videos first. It is not a nice thing which is why some doctors don't let you be in the room. I don't know what rules your doctor will have.

Never! Seriously, why would you do such a thing? And if you do, you sure as heck better watch. Otherwise, they may skip the anesthetic and your baby will feel totally abandoned.

Are you sure you know what you are about to put your baby through? Have you watch the videos?

My son had his 2 days after he was born, the day we were supppose to be discharged. I was not allowed in the room. The nurse came and took him at 6:30 in the morning and brought him back around 7:30ish.

Usually within the first few days of life. Even if the doctor assures you anesthesia will be used, request to be in the room to make sure. I was in the room with my son, and he didn't even wince. And don't let any narrow - minded people judge your decision or try to accuse you of mutilating your baby. It's a personal choice, and one he may be grateful you made later. Circumcision does NOT have to be painful, but may be painful later in life if it's not done in infancy. Also, it's been proven to help reduce the risk of STD's and certain cancers, especially if the cancer is in the child's family (my son had a relative who was diagnosed with penile cancer).
