This is a tough one, but I'm going to go with Rock 'n Roll High School by The Ramones from the movie Rock 'n Roll High School. Why? Because The Ramones kick your musical ***, and the movie was named after the damn song!

I would say a good, rockin' song should be accompanied by car chases, people running, explosions or something similar.

Best movies:
Hard Day's Night
Hail Hail Rock and Roll
Laurel Canyon
School of Rock
Easy Rider

Several finale songs come to mind:

All Summer Long--the Beach Boys (in American Graffiti)
Ooh Child--Valerie Carter (in Over the Edge)
I Melt With You--Modern English (in Valley Girl)
Sounds Of Silence--Simon & Garfunkel (in The Graduate)

oh yeah, and for an opening:

One Tin Soldier--Coven (in Billy Jack)

Freebird, at the end of 'The Devil's Rejects'
Other than that Donnie Darko has 3 excellent moments - The Killing Moon (Echo & The Bunnymen) at the start, 'Head Over Heels' (Tears for Fears) in the school sequence and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' (Joy Division) in the party

I would say "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf. It was first used in hte movie "Easy Rider". The thing is, it was actually written about a used car but has become so identified with motorcycles that it's become a biker's anthem. One interesting fact is that the lead singer of the group couldn't ride a motorcycle even if he wanted to. That's because he's legally blind.

I never saw Antonioni's "Zabriskie Point," but the 8-track soundtrack had songs by Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Kaleidoscope, and (are you ready for this?) Patti Page singing "The Tennessee Waltz"!
