Sounds like you've been visiting the South. "Y'all" is just a contraction for "you all", and is very common here in the Southern U.S. And people can expect to be called "Sir" or "Ma'am" in the South, because it's a polite form of address. Sorry that you find good manners annoying. :)

Well I'm from the south and thats just how we talk in the south. Yall is just part of the vocab and ma'am is a way to show respect to anyone who is older than us. I have family all over the USA and believe me there are a lot of Americans that do not talk like that. You could cut the south away from the rest of the country(except FL) and make it its own country.

Ya'll is just slang for 'you all' and it is much more common in the south. It's no worse than a British man calling a car hood a 'bonnet', and making it seem rather feminine.
Ma'am is a sign of respect. I'm pretty sure it's in the Oxford dictionary.

As an American professional I say Ma'am to be polite and respect those around me , as far as the y'all I think that is just something some people grew up with and is part of our vocabulary ... so in closing I'm sorry the way we speak is annoying but it's who we are.

"yall" means "you all" or all of you. Ma'am is just a polite and formal way of addressing a woman.
"Yall" is definitly something that the southern states say. The rest of us really don't use that mushing of words.

Because we are Americans. Do you really think that when I treat you with respect, is annoying? I'm sorry you feel that way mam'n, but that's we are raised. As far as I know "y'all" covers a group of people having a good time and enjoying each others company. At least that's the way I've lived my life. Maybe your friends are different.

It's a southern thing and nothing bad is meant by it.
Ya'll is short for you all or you guys in the north.
Ma'am is better than hey you or Miss/Mrs and it is polite. If someone is being considerate around you, you should just appreciate it and say thank you. It is out of respect. You can ignore it if it really bothers you.

not all Americans say "ya'll" in fact I think only people from the southern states say that (like TEXAS). Cause we don't say it on the west coast, that's for sure.
For people saying "ma'am" that is out of pure politeness. I love it when someone calls me that, and I'm only 26.

ya'll is a southern form of saying you all. And if anybody is raised with manners they will call you ma'am. It is the rude people that don't use sir or ma'am.
