It's not a warning, it's a symptom. And, yes, a fire could follow, so get it to a shop immediately. Most likely the catalyst is heating the floor up. That could be caused by a plugged exhaust or a misfire causing the catalyst to work too hard; either way it needs to be fixed right away before more damage is caused.
God Bless.

What car do you drive? What year?
I'm guessing that it has to do with the catalytic converter in the exhaust system. They will get very hot and are usually located under the front floorboards. The heat may be normal, or it may be caused by a plugged up or dis functioning converter.
I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the mufflers.

The catalytic converter and the muffler are right under your feet and the floorboards will get hot. There should be a plate over these parts to deflect the heat. Maybe someone removed it or it rusted off and is long gone. Go to a muffler shop and get it all checked out.

Sounds like your catalytic converter is the culprit, take it to a muffler shop and have them check it out for a positive ID, OR at night when it is pitch black out, drive the car until the floorboards heat up again, and look underneath the car, engine area, if you see a big glowing red thing (I mean bright cherry red if its as hot as your saying) that would your catalytic converter. Without any mention of mileage or what kind of car it is it is hard to say for certain, good luck!

Sounds like you've lost the heatshield that insulates the floor from the heat of the exhaust pipe. Or you have an exhaust leak that's heating the floor. If the car really loud?
Don't drive it around like that. Get it fixed before you set your car on fire.

Depending on the vehicle, your transmission may be getting hot, is it a front or rear wheel vehicle. Is there carpet and insulation, or is it an old car with rust through the floor boards. Or is it a luxury car and the heated seats are malfunctioning?

put the car on a lift and look at where the floor. it' probably has to do with the exhaust system most likely something to do with the catalytic converter they are known for starting brush fires in tall grass and dry leaves if the car is misfiring the raw fuel is probably burning in the converter

If the floor boards are getting hot and you think the car has lost power then it sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. Run the car and look underneath to see if it is red hot.

Because when the catalytic converter's heat shield started rattling some idiot just pulled it off instead of fixing it.
