I just saw someone being interviewed who had visited somewhere in the middle east and he said that he was warned not to use a "thumbs up" because it has a bad meaning there...is this true?

if he's using his thumb then no it's rude...no problemof that in the middle east , we use thumbs up to tell someone "you did a great job" without using any words.

Now, if he's using his middle finger then that's another story, but then it wouldn't be called a "thumb up"

oh wait...it depends on how he is used to using "thumbs up"....where was his thumb when he stuck it up?

In Iran if one holds up their thumb and says the word cant spell it "baleck". This is the same as the west, but we use our middle finger and say **** you. Cheers! Hope it helped.
