This is very upsetting news. I am a huge Peter, Paul and Mary fan. So many songs I loved that were covered by them. Early Morning Rain If I Had a Hammer. (Hate that song, love them doing it) 500 Miles Where Have All the Flowers Gone. My favorite is probably "500 Miles" ...poignant and simple in its beauty.

I've heard it a few times, and I don't see any references to weed in it really........ only the word"puff" but its the name of the magic dagon lol......it doesnt say "puff....etc etc"
So I couldn't tell u what its about, but I can tell you that i don't think its about smokin weed :)
Theres a lot more songs out there which are totally blunt (no pun intended) about the fact the song is about weed, sooo why drag out a debate about this when the artist of the song has stated that, its not

Thank you durtydeuce and designtwilight for the correct answer. It sad that people will take a lovely song about childhood and the carefree innocence that once was and make it about doing drugs. I love the song still. But you can't stop people, if thats what they want to do.

Here's a stretch, maybe it's about a magic dragon named "Puff" and it was a catchy tune the group and its marketing machine at the record company thought would make money? Why does it have to mean anything? Most folk/pop is meaningless poetry. Just memorable ditties to make a buck.

Its so easy to say its about smoking pot, but I disagree with that notion. It's really a very sad story about growing up into a colder business-only world. It's about losing your childhood. But it reminds me to stay true to myself and let the kid inside myself out to play sometimes.
Here are the last versus, they are not as popular as the chorus:
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

A dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist. And the boy who loved that Magic Puff very much! Now do like the rest of us and put your own twist on what that means. >:)

Well a comedic movie said it was about drugs so it must be true, right?
Wrong - "The authors of the song have repeatedly and vehemently denied any intentional drug reference."
It is a fantasy story about a boy and a dragon, the end.

A lot of people think it is about pot. I would suggest renting "Meet the Parents." Funny debate between De Niro' s character and Stiller's character as to what it really means. Even thinking of it now it cracks me up.
