Find the latitude of your city on Earth, if it is forty degrees N, look into the sky, facing north and estimate where that point is above the horizon, you should have no problem finding the little dipper, the Pole Star is the last star on the handle.

The north star, Polaris, is the end star in the handle of the little dipper.

Actually it is a double star. Polaris A and B
