I really love Irish names, and found a name that is very unusual (at least here in Canada) that I would love to name my daughter (preg now) - Siobhan. I was just wondering if anyone had this name, if they liked it, or whether or not you like it. I love how unusual it is. It's pronounced
shay-vahn

Siobhan is a beautiful name. If you feel in your heart that this is the proper name for your baby, you should go with it. Years ago, there was a beautiful red-headed actress, I cannot remember her name, who was on the soap opera, Ryan's Hope, her character name's was Siobhan. Both of my grandchildren have unusual names, Wolf and Harley. Do not worry about what others think. If you give your kids pride in who they are, remarks from stupid people will not affect them. When your daughter is old enough, Tell her why you picked such a pretty name and that you felt inspired to name her Siobhan. May you and your baby be blessed and have a happy life. ktbrady

the sound of the name sounds lovely, but I would have never guessed that this is how you pronounce it. It's just spelled out in a difficult way, so I can see the future being full of people pronouncing it wrong and constantly asking how you say it and then the once trying to say it by how it is spelled out.

I would have other pretty names, that can be still interesting as a back up.

so that's how you pronounce it :p. i know there was a singer in Bananarama / Shakespeare's Sister named Siobhan Fahey. I always thought it looked like a pretty name,though i wasn't quite sure how to say it. But now that i know, it sounds pretty too. I just hope teachers and such won't be as clueless how to pronounce it as i was, but if that's ever the case, she could always go by Von or Vonnie.

* how about Siobhan Colleen?

I know of a woman named Siovhan (pronounced Suh-von).

The name, if pronounced correctly, is actually pronounced shih-von.

I like the name, though. It is very pretty.

Congratulations and best wishes to you!

I've heard it before. It's a tough one to spell but that's usually how it goes with Irish names. It is pronounced shih-von, fyi. :)

Yes a girl at my school is called Siobhan. I think it's really ugly. She's so annoying. I wouldn't name my child that.
