It's not that appropriate management theories don't exist, it's that the management theories themselves don't get a proper run.

I can only think there must be cabals of people everyone else is scared shitless of, like a mafia, who terrorise the workplace.

its all about putting the proper person, who can do the job correctly , in the proper position, and having checks and backups, as everyone, no matter how skilled they are, can mess up sometimes, that is part of being human , and actually, the more highly skilled, who function at 99% accuracy most of the time, can make silly little mistakes, but potentially major ones, that have a great impact on any project, so that is why you need the check system in place
it works for the projects best interest, and also the workers
