I went to msconfig and selected selective startup then went to startup tab and unchecked some programs that i didn't want to load during start-up. Well somehow they are being checked again and i can't seem to get them to stay unchecked and they keep loading when i don't want them to is there a way to fix this so they won't load on startup. through the registry perhaps?

1. On your Start menu, go to Run and type "services.msc" (without quotes).

2. Right-click on the application that you want to disable from starting up and go to Properties.

3. In the Start-up Mode field, choose Disable.

Did you check the startup folder under start>Programs? You should check that and click the startup tab in msconfig, and uncheck the programs that you don't want to run on startup.

If you went into msconfig, and unchecked them, but they are "rechecking" themselves, I am thinking they may be spyware/adware. What programs are they exactly? In any case, I would try running the latest version of "Spybot Seek and Destroy", then going into msconfig and unchecking them. You could go into the registry, but if you don't know what you are doing, you could cause irreparable damage, so I would only suggest that as a last resort.

They could very well be in the registry. It would be under either one of 2 places. Go to Start>Run and type in regedit. Then in the registry editor, go to:
Hkey_Local_Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Run
OR
Hkey_Current_User > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Run

Then just delete the unwanted entries that are starting up. Close the editor, then restart. Done.

Set the provider to lead, then pass lower back to msconfig after that. Then log all different purchasers OFF thoroughly (nicely somewhat you're able to desire to do this earlier you utilize your guy or woman, of course), log into each and every consumer and alter the msconfigs for them too. And examine the container earlier you shut the "startup thoughts have been replaced" dialogs. Restart attempt when you have unchecked everybody'S... startups in msconfig are consistent with-profile. amenities are for each individual, however the provider may well be resetting it. additionally examine the commencing up > Startup folder (i think of it is suggested as; mine is deleted). additionally, you desire administrative satus to alter msconfig tests... or so the dialogs will inform you; i've got in no way had something somewhat not exchange from it even nevertheless I did get a message. Regardless, it must be. and a few on-state virus video exhibit contraptions will make the pc think of you have not have been given admin get admission to, so end them and disable their provider besides if desire be. even though i can not think of why you may desire one in each and every of those application in case you do not desire it working each and every of the time; it is form of pointless to have in any different case. of course it is in basic terms slightly quicker to start up it manually after each and every boot-up, yet while the only distinction is 3 seconds of startup time it does not be significant adequate to place up in a... place approximately it. additionally, if this application is able to somewhat controlling your hardware, exceedingly if it grow to be pre-put in, ought to there be an selection in the BIOS?

I agree about the spyware. But also, sometimes the devils are not in msconfig to turn off and you have to either go to that program or go to the registery.

If you want to run the spyware, do it in safemode. Otherwise the programs are running and spyware may not catch it.

If you want to do the registry:
Go to start>run
type in regedit.
When the window opens, you can go to file and do an export, this will save a copy of the registry. So you can import it back if you mess up :-)
Hit th plus next to HKEY_Local_Machine
Then Hit the plus next to Software
Then Hit the plus next to Microsoft
Then Hit the plus next to Windows
Then Hit the plus next to CurrentVersion
Then open the RUN folder
In there you can delete the program.
Do NOT delete your virus stuff or other things.
Then just X out out of.
Hope this helps.
