I would use spray glue on the candle and roll it in a product called Diamond Dust. You can find it in the craft stores where they sell glitter. It comes in bigger jars, and id quite a bit cheaper than glitter.

One thing everyone else failed to mention is that using real sugar will attract ants. So, please don't use real sugar! You can find the "sugary" substance at your local craft store, as suggested above.

In craft stores they sell candle decoration beads and sand, and glitter... You just put it around the outer layer. Heating the outer layer and rolling the glitter or beads or sand helps...

real sugar may melt....but give it a try. maybe you could try a very fine white sand
