I've wondered the same thing. I mean Xbox 360 games use DVD's just like the regular Xbox so it seems like it should be able to play on the regular Xbox because it's the same disk format.
It kinda makes me think why Microsoft charges $59.99 for it's new games when they are still using DVD's and most new games started at $49.99 when they first came out for the regular Xbox which also used DVD's for it's games. The PS3's games start at $59.99 and the PS3 games use Blu-Ray DVD's and Blu-Ray DVD's are superior to standard DVD since it can hold up to 25GB on a single layer.

actually get the Elite... You get 100Gb extra difficult force area than with the Halo 3 version (120Gb for Elite, 20Gb for Halo 3 version), and the Elite comes able to being related to a HDTV via an HDMI cable acceptable out of the field. or you may desire to purchase a definite adapter to do it. additionally - the Halo 3 version does not contain the sport Halo 3!!!

halo 3 requires much faster cpu, graphics card, more ram, and power than normal xbox could ever give.

probably the same reason it wont work on XP
because its so advanced it requires a more powerfull machine.
