You had the Black Panthers and the SDS, and both groups were heavily armed. Feminists supported both groups. How could feminists not utter a word of criticism of MEN who are armed to the teeth? Does leftist politics really trump all else?

Yes, feminists would've blasted the NRA, but won't utter a word against the Black Panthers or SDS.

Yes, Ashleigh, I lived during those times and was disturbed then at the contradictions.

I see that feminists are staying away in droves because they can't rationalize this one.

Feminism was just getting off the ground at that time. Most supported many far leftist actions as this was also the basis for feminism. These armed and violent hate groups, which included many women such as Angela Davis who is now a professor at the University of California (where else?), were part of the reason feminism grew unnoticed. While the establishment was focused on armed and violent groups, feminists were sneaking in the back door unnoticed.
Many hate and/or radical leftist groups begin in university settings where brainwashing is most effective as it can be used on those with limited intelligence and zero actual world experience. This is why universities are still the preferred setting for feminism.
Angela Davis, mentioned above, is now a professor of "History of Consciousness", which is just another front for feminist brainwashing/thinking.
I was a young man during the height of the SDS, which was proven to be a Communist-backed group involved in bringing down the US government. The Weathermen Faction of the SDS was the radical arm that was in favor or armed revolt against the US. (The name came from the song "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan, specifically the lyrics: "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows").
The goal of the SDS was to “assert their rights” on civil rights, Vietnam, social, and political issues. For example, SDS and eventual Weather Underground member Kathy Boudin fought for the rights of single welfare mothers in Ohio. The SDS initially preferred non-violent tactics, and sought to open the eyes of the nation (particularly the young). While the SDS believed that “the individual should share in those social decisions determining the quality and direction of his life”, the Weather Underground leaned towards violence and more radical strategies.
Feminists are ultra-leftists and will support any group that also supports socialism/Communism.

Feminism is not this monolithic structure where people sign a contract in blood and agree to what some Queen Feminist has decided is appropriate. Feminism is about awareness: where that awareness takes you is entirely your choice.
There were a lot of heavily militarized groups in those days--it was a violent time (like it's not now) and the majority of feminists were anti-gun. Some supported unpopular causes, but that was their prerogative. I would imagine that a lot of heavy duty decisions had to be made by everyone in '60s, and maybe the ideologies behind the panthers and other groups outweighed the violent element. I do not know if there were any dissenting voices--do you? It would be interesting to study how people of the time reacted to other similar dilemmas. Interesting question.
Edit: And I resent that comment about feminists.

You mean that Some feminists supported the Panthers and the Weathermen?
What is strange (or wrong?) that some feminists supported or were in radical leftist groups in the US way back in the 1960s and 70s?
Or today in Latin America in the 21st century? We are individuals you know.

Actually, considering the over 40,000 gunshot wound deaths on U.S. soil each and every year, that are reported, committed by gun owners and their so-called "right to bear arms" who are vehemently supported by the Right, Republicans, Conservatives and the NRA, and considering that the majority of arms dealers and manufacturers of weapons such as the makers of the weapons used at the Columbine High School massacre are people who fund Republicans, it would look less foolish to leave "leftist politics" out of any discussion of guns.

Uh, were they supposed to not support the groups that merely wanted to protect their black members from being lynched by loony mobs of whites in the South? The Black Panthers did not go about lynching whites with their arms. Their arms were for defense. Do you know Martin Luther King carried a gun until one night when someone called and threatened death on his family and he had a nervous breakdown?
Do you know about the history of lynchings? Do you know about Emmett Till? You should read up on that.

Did You actually live during those times? Or are You merely reacting to Your research? You had to have actually been there to understand what was going on and how totally confused everyone was about the directions society was to lean towards. What You have read is based upon the 'end results' rather than the lessons leaned during the struggle.

Not leftist politics, but supporting a group of people that were horribly oppressed was more important, and I would agree.
