Hopefully, a knowledgeable Coin Collector will provide me some information concerning South Korean coins.

I would like to learn any and all reasons why South Korean coins dated 1982 are extremely difficult to find, or locate.

Are they considered rare, or perhaps because of a low mintage number for that year??

All knowledgeable answers are appreciated. Thank you.

There are many other collectors there. Some even specialize in world coins.

Good luck!

Well the Standard catalog says they are not rare or even scarce. The 10 won coin had a mintage of 20,000,000. The 100 Won 50,000,000. The 1982 Won had a mintage of 30,000,000. I have no idea what country you are from, but it could be that they are not around for very few people collect them. In this country they usually show up when one buys a pound of mixed coins or are in what is called a dealers junk box, which sometimes contains treasures for the dealer does not know what he has. A while back in World coin News it did mention that low denomination coins from South Korea were being melted due to the metal value is higher than the coin value. It also mentioned the goverment cracked down on it. I just don't think you have been in the right place at the right time. hope this helps. I just noticed you are living in Korea so maybe the melting has effected some of the coins. Have you seen a coin dealer there?

The South Korean coins dated 1982 with the exception of the 500 won belong to the old series and since that was 25 years ago I'm not surprised if most of them have been phased out of circulation. 1982 was also the last year of the old series and it was possible that the BOK didn't release the majority of coins minted for that year and those in vaults were probably melted for the new series in 1983. Other than these possibilities, the 1982 South Korean coins are not rare, with high mintages as stated. The coin shops in Korea might have the 1982 coins, probably in the form of mint sets.

What "Westerners" have you been hanging out with? Indian girls are the new "it girls", don't let those punks fool you. Their affections are highly sought after by all races, including Koreans. However the biggest problem is many think Indian girls are unapproachable so it is up to you to make the move. If you like some Korean dude then step up and make him your man, simply as that.
